Technology is causing massive shifts in the way we live, work and interact! We’ve moved from phones to smart phones, from driving our cars to driverless cars, and so on..

Technology is also going to bring a major transformation in the types of jobs that we are going to be pursuing in the future. According to a Mckinsey Report, more than 60% of the current jobs are going to get disrupted in the next 2 decades. The report also adds that more than 65% of current primary school kids are going to be working in jobs that do not exist right now.

To help kids keep up with such a fast-changing world, teaching kids about the latest technologies has become truly essential.

One such upcoming and really exciting tech avenue for kids to pursue is Robotics.

Robotics is the coming together of science and engineering to produce robots. Essentially, a robot is a machine that has been programmed to follow certain instructions. Their prime purpose is to substitute human effort by replicating their (human) actions.

With the rapid ascension of technology in the field of Robotics, the functions that robots are performing or will soon be performing have come a long way from even a decade ago. Ten years ago, the primary use of robots was to assemble cars for the automobile industry. But today, we can find robots everywhere- from assisting doctors to law enforcement.

But while robotics might be accomplishing really complex functions, it is not necessarily complex to learn and practice. In fact Robotics for beginners is accessible through online (and offline) programmes available worldwide. So to help you make a more informed choice, here are some reasons why Robotics can be a good skill to learn or to teach your kids (as a parent):

1. It is a highly engaging and fun way to pass on IT skills to kids, where they can see their programming come to life in a highly interactive manner.

2. There is an ascending demand for tech knowledge from the coming generations, that learning Robotics can address. It teaches the concepts of math, science, engineering, programming, as well as how these individual concepts come together to create something novel.

3. Robotics is going to be HUGE in the coming decades. In fact, we can expect robots to take on many if not most of the existing job roles. But that also means high demand for employment in the Robotics industry. The drone industry has already taken off by huge numbers. According to reports, the US drone market is selling 15000 pieces/month.

4. According to certain researches, children with autism really benefit from engagements with robots. The effects of such engagements, if consistent, can be calming on these kids.

5. Robotics and its socially-beneficial applications can encourage children to become conscious innovators. They can use their knowledge of Robotics to create applications that can help society. These can include the examples mentioned above (in the fields of Medicine, Disaster Mitigation, etc.)

BeSingular is an online tech learning platform that offers Robotics classes for kids. Students also get a chance to work on real-life projects, which helps to crystallize their learnt skills. Some BeSingular scholars were even in the news recently for performing “long-distance” programming on a robot named Brobot (an in-house robot at BeSingular’s tech lab in Germany) from India. Check out Brobot in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbSDjwfHyRM&t=4s

Apart from Robotics, BeSingular also provides courses in other exponential technologies, including- Programming, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Game Design, Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, iOS App Development, and Augmented & Virtual Reality (AR/VR).
